Salvador Dalí

Salvador Dalí was an icon, a celebrity, and a genius Surrealist (20th-century avant-garde movement) who sought to release the unconscious creative potential through art. As a result, Dalí paintings feature dreamlike imagery. Contributing immensely to the Surrealist movement agenda and presence, the fantastical sculptures, prints, films, writings, and Salvador Dalí's famous paintings embody Surrealism's identity.

Incorporating psychoanalytic ideas, Dalí sculptures and art feature clocks, elephants, women, and deserted landscapes that leave viewers in awe and unsettled. In addition to 2-dimensional art, Salvador Dalí wrote fiction, poetry, autobiographies, essays, and even directed films. Major themes in his work include dreams, the subconscious, sexuality, religion, science, and his closest personal relationships. With a cult following, the eccentric and ostentatious behavior and stunts by Salvador Dalí drew more attention than his art.
